Stuti on acharyas and azwars - part 3

Sampradaya has it that when Sri Yamunacharya drifted from sampradaya in his early days he was led back by his own Guru through the introduction of a keerai (green) in his food and so on. In this verse I use the word harita to mean keerai. Ramanuja's gotra is said to be haarita. So I make use of these two words in the following sloka...

Meaning:

I salute that muni who at the vicinity of Lord Varada found the sampradaya and it's propagator (Sri Ramanuja) and showed it(to the world or to us) Sampradaya has it that stotra ratna was composed on Lord Varada and Sri Yamunacharya saw Ramanuja for the first time in the Varadaraja temple...

-----------------------------

I salute that muni always whose grandfather was of shatamarshana gotra and was a receptacle of the grace of Sri Sathakopa.

-----------------------------

Many salutations to him by whom the fruit called Gita was cut open with 32 padyas for the benefit of those who do not possess the teeth called jnana. Gitartha sangraha is the padya which has 32 verses akin to the 32 teeth that are needed to taste or relish the uncut fruit called Gita. Yamunacharya or Alavandar is the composer. Salutations to him. I salute that Yamuna muni is the meaning of the last pada.

Wrote it for Thiruvaadipooram

Let that Goda (Andal), one who grants all (desires), who yearned for that Gopala, God of Gods as her bride, accompanied by elephants (a thousand, in her dreams) protect us or take care of us always!

Written four years back, bound to have some mistakes, for sure!

-----------------------------

On Andal again

Let that Goda (always) protect us who, from her childhood, considered herself to be consort of Krishna, and who is (always) shining unparalleled with her Lord!

-----------------------------

For thiruvaadipooram!

Let her (Goda), who was accepted (as a consort) by the groom of her choice, through the garlands made and adorned by herself first (and adorned by Him later), and who shines with him unmatched, protect us!

May be a better version!

-----------------------------

Cataka is a mythological bird which lives only on feeding rain water directly from the clouds! So it will be after rain bearing dark clouds (सरसकृष्णमेघ)

Nammalwar or Shatakopa is akin to a cataka bird who lived upon Krishna rasa that was showered by His smrti ( सरसकृष्णमेघस्य)

I salute always that destroyer of tamas (ignorance) the lustrous cataka bird, Shatakopa, who lived upon the rasa of dark cloud called Krishna!

Question:'What will the jivatman eat (enjoy) and where will it be when it is born (manifests) in the body (matter, which is lifeless)

Answer:'it will be in that body (until liberation) experiencing the pleasure and pain arising out of it'.

This was the exchange of dialogue between Madhurakavi (question) and Sri Nammalwar (answer) (Sathakopa).

Madhurakavi became a disciple of Sri Nammalwar after listening to the answer - thus goes the Srivaishnava tradition.

The following verse is about this.

किमश्मन्नस्ति what does it eat and reside वा कुत्र where मृते in the dead matter जातः born अपरः the inferior soul (jivatma) ननु indeed तदश्नन्नस्ति eating that and staying तत्र there इति in this प्रश्नोत्तरे question and answer अस्तु let मे my मतिः thought be

Let me (always) ponder upon the question and answer 'where indeed the jivatma reside and what does it eat (enjoy) when it is born in the lifeless body (acetana)? It resides there only enjoying the pain and pleasure born out of it'.

Thereby thinking, the acharya, his sishya and the philosophy!

-----------------------------

This one is on Sri Sudarshana Suri’s greatest contribution to Srivaishnava sampradaya – Shrutaprakashika – a voluminous super commentary to Sri Bhashya, magnum opus of Srimad Ramanuja. It is like a fort to the kingdom of Sri Bhashya – can never be attacked. It takes a life time to read it, leave alone understanding it.

Without any motive for name or wealth acharyas like him have contributed a lot. Ofcourse there are such noble atmas in all sampradayas!
