Random musings - part 8

There are several names of the Lord that we can chant or meditate upon. Each one has its own significance. The name Hari means one who destroys the sins of his devotee (the same is true for Hara also, name of Siva). Whether you destroy my sin or not, I don't give a thought to it, but by merely saying your name 'Hari', I don't know why, brings happiness in me, and so I chant Hari Hari....

Hevilambi! (The samvatsara by name hevilambi) we welcome you (as you are being born); without delay give us indeed all that is good as you are being born (now) and always!

-----------------------------

Swagatam to Hemalamba!

(The samvatsara by name hemalamba); without delay let it give us, during her birth, indeed all that is good always! It looks like the हेमलम्ब is preferred over हेविलम्बि । so the sloka is modified.....

Wrote it just for the similar sounding words; the idea struck me with almost the same the words in the verse. So recording it.

To me, the one coupled with ahankara, Narayana, there is no recourse. Let that mantra namo narayanaya coupled with omkara (pranav), the astakshara mantra, be my refuge now.

This one is a birthday wish to Trayi (what a name!, trayi means the Vedas), daughter of Sri.Jayaraman and Smt.Sowmya (both of them scholars in Sanskrit). She completed 5 years day before yesterday! Sri.Jayaraman posted a verse in FB on this and that triggered me to compose the following!

That shrewd Trayi has completed 5 years today. Let her be rejoicing and victorious and shine with a pleasing conduct! The names of her parents also appear in the verse!

In present times, it is becoming increasingly difficult to earn money without compromising on one's values or dharma. Is it possible to earn money by strictly following dharma? On the contrary, to carry out or maintain our dharma, money is required! What is the way out? Question the Lord!

भूयते becomes नैव not at all धर्मेण by following dharma धनार्जनं earning of money जनार्दन Janardana धने while money रक्षति protecting तस्मिन्नु that dharma indeed धर्मवतां to those who follow dharma वद give उत्तरम् an answer...

Janardana, by following dharma, it is not easy to earn money. But the case being (only) money protecting dharma, give an answer to those practice it!

Arandavanukku irundathellam pei or in some other form goes the popular saying - a frightened mind doubts everything!

When we are in danger, we are unable to decide whether someone is trying to help us or otherwise, whether to trust or not!

Sugriva, a monkey, was staying in Rishyamukha hills out of fear of Vaali. When Rama and Lakshmana came in search of him in the name of friendship, he saw them from a distance and out of fear sent Hanuman to know about their nature!

He doubted even Rama!

आविर्भवेत्तु Let manifest देवोऽपि even God भीतस्य to the frightened प्रत्ययो trust कुतः wherefrom कपिः Sugriva शंकितवान् doubted रामं Rama शाखामृगत्वम् monkey-ness एत्य rooted in वै indeed

Even when God manifests before, a frightened mind doubts! Sugriva, well rooted in monkey-ness doubted Rama indeed! I learnt the word shakhamrga - monkey, today from Srimad Ramayana. Hanuman chides Sugriva with this word!

Beauty is skin deep - so goes the excellent saying!

This evening I was looking at an insect which had shed its skin and roaming in all white. Its beauty had fallen off with its old skin! or so I thought!

For a moment if we were to perceive objects without skin or colour thereof, would they still be beautiful? Not sure! 🤔

भवति is there सर्वभूतानां of all beings सौन्दर्यं beauty नाम called केवलं only चक्षुषा through eyes ग्राह्यः perceivable चर्मस्थ in the skin वर्णविशेषः a peculiar form of colour combination

There is something called beauty in all beings that is perceivable only through the eyes and is a peculiar form of the colour combination in the skin!

Surrendering to the will of God is a good medicine for not only superficial problems in life but also for the perennial problem called 'life' itself! How should one be after surrendering? One should not seek anything but accept what comes across in due course of life!

पतितोऽहं I have fallen पदे at feet ते your हि indeed विदितः is knownअयं this त्वम् you are अच्युतः Acyuta विहितं proper यच्च what is मे to me देहि give निहितोऽस्मि I am just staying put सदा always प्रभो Lord!

Lord! I have fallen at your feet and it is well known that you are always Acyuta (one who does not let his devotees down). Please give me what I deserve and I will just stay put! I shall not make any special efforts for the sake of survival etc! Rather focus on the duty on hand!

What is cleaning? Everything seems to be junk at some point of time. And the entire earth is covered with dust. Ever wondered why that cupboard is always full despite cleaning it routinely?

Because cleaning means moving dirt/garbage from one place to another so that there is room for fresh dirt/garbage to come in!

मार्जनं cleaning नाम means तत्कर्म that activity येन by which एकतः from one place तु but कर्दमः dirt / garbage अन्यत्र to another place नीयते is taken नूनं indeed नूतनस्य for the new one स्थलं room भवेत् is made!

Cleaning means that activity by which old dirt is removed from one place to another so that new dirt can be accommodated!

Another one on cleaning will follow!
