Random musings - part 10

Both the wise and unwise are not enthusiastic about debates. It is those who are in between that plunge in to it on their own!

भीत्या due to fear  औदासीन्य and indifference  हेतुभ्यां reasons  मूर्खाश्च fools and पण्डिताः wise सदा always  विवादे in debate  विमुखास्सन्ति do not participate  मध्यगाः those who are in between उन्मुखाः are bent upon it स्वयं on their own...

Due to fear and indifference the fools and the wise avoid debates. Those are in between get in to it voluntarily.

I present this one on 'arasamaram' in Tamil or the peepal tree....I found that it's Sanskrit name is रोहिन् If we notice many of the dilapidated buildings, there will be for sure one or many peepal trees laughing their way to the top!

Why only them? Maybe they have the will in them to grow big and somehow fight their way out! Hence they deserve to be called as 'arasamaram' or king among trees! It is difficult to destroy them...

जायसे are born यत्रकुत्रापि anywhere वर्धसे grow big  कथमप्यहो somehow राजवृक्षेति the king of trees नाम त्वं name you  रोहिन् peepal tree अर्हसि deserve सर्वथा by all means.

Peepal tree! You are born anywhere and grow to be big somehow. By all means you deserve to be called the king of trees!

This one tries to state one need to be careful with one's own offsprings as well and bring them up well, as there could be bitter experiences later on.. Let there be love but not blind love. No doubt the offsprings spring from one's own body..yet they have to be disciplined or corrected or shaped up..

Like what? Nails and teeth also spring out from one's own body but harm when they are not maintained properly or when we don't exercise care..we need to be careful especially when they are sharp!

आत्मजाः born off one's self अपि even सर्वेषां  for all स्वार्थे for oneself  स्युः be उपयोगिनः  useful नैव never सदा always अनुकूलाः favourable  नख nail दन्त tooth प्रसूतयः and children

We need to exercise caution with nails, teeth and children as they may not be favourable always though they are born out of one's self and help us in many ways...

There is a tendency to associate permanence to anything and everything and that itself becomes a source of affliction. If we look at nature closely nothing is at work permanently. If it were so then there would be no life or activity....

Sun, wind and rain are not at work ever...if it were so life would be impossible....

Just driving a message on the necessity of non-permanence in life with this as a reason...for it to proceed further...

Wind does not flow, Sun does not shine, clouds do not rain forever. If they were to function eternally, there would be no life or activity. Therefore impermanence is an important factor of life, leave the idea of permanence in life.

--------------------------------

Our very existence is dependent on so many factors (on God and all of his creations).

This being the fact, wherefrom this thought 'I am serving someone / I do a lot of service'. Our dependence is more when compared to the 'dependence' of others on us! There is no place for pride in that!

पराधीनोसि dependent नूनं indeed त्वं you are सर्वकर्मसु in all activities  सर्वथा by all means भावना feeling ते your  कुतो wherefrom हन्त alas कैंकर्यपरः I extend service इत्यहो thus alas!

You are indeed dependent on others in all your activities; alas! wherefrom this feeling in you 'I do service to others' or 'I am service oriented'. The point is service makes sense when giving is more than receiving....if not so, let there not be any pride in it!

Love, between parents and children, is on a one way track like a river. From parents to their children and from them to their children and so on. There is some reciprocation, no doubt, but to say the truth, it is heavily one sided unfortunately. It gets stronger when it goes forward! Alas! even then it is ever growing / flowing.

पितुः from a father पुत्रे to his sonतु but  पुत्रस्य of the son तत्पुत्रे to his son हि indeed वहत्यहो flows Alas प्रेमनदी love river तथापीह even then here वर्धमानास्ति is flowing सा it सदा always

From a father to (only) his son, from him to (only) his son flows the love river...(not always mutual) even then it is ever flowing.....

Normally people with shraddha (difficult to translate exactly but can mean faithful, respectful) are a rare breed. But in the places where they are found they are not recognized! they do not get their due! This is an irony in life!

Be it a watchman, servant, worker, pupil, friend, teacher et al.....

सामान्यतो normally न not लभ्यन्ते got लोके in the world श्रद्धान्विताः people with shraddha किल indeed लभ्येरन् if got यत्र where दैवेन by chance तत्र there अहो alas न not समाद्रिताः respected!

People with shraddha are rarely found. If by chance they are found somewhere, alas, for sure, they go unrecognized! Such is their destiny!

Usually the best of students is compared to a lion. This is an attempt to bring out some fun with that. Looking at a student with unkempt hair, who was yawning with all his teeth displayed, the teacher thought he is indeed a Lion!

How to generally find out if people are patient or not? Well with the placement of letters (handwriting), words (speaking) and feet (walking) the longevity of patience in them is exhibited! I scribble, speak and walk fast - impatient and restless to the core!

--------------------------------

Both sheep and men are same when it comes to herd mentality. But then sheep are better without doubt, even by being so, they don't trouble others!

--------------------------------

For those who follow dharma initially there is bound to be lot of duhkha (as it is not easy) but later on when the testing time is crossed successfully nothing other than happiness will ensue.
