नकुलस्य सुघोषे - प्रहेलिकामालिका - भाग- ४


    1.    कोऽहम्?

    सस्वरे मयि जाते हि निश्चलश्रवणं सदा ।

    यदानुमोदनं तालैः कालावधिस्तदैव मे ।।
  
     2.    आवां कौ?

     समीपवर्ति मित्रं मे स्निह्यति बहु मय्यहो ।
    
     रोदिमि यद्यहं सोपि मामनुवर्तते सदा ।।
    
    
      3.    कोऽहम्?

      सुखे कदापि दुःखे च श्मश्रुणि तु सदास्मि वै ।

      पुंसि नाहं न च स्त्रियां मम गतिरधोमुखी ।।
     

      4.    कोऽहम्

      द्विकोस्मि द्विजसामान्यः तृषितोहं च नित्यदा ।

      मुद्गलस्यापि सम्बन्धी वसुदेवसुतस्य च ।।
    
  
 5.     कथमेतत् ?

      दुर्योधनः पुरोवाच कृष्णे समागते सति ।
   
      नमेयं वन्दनार्होस्ति सभायां सर्वदेति वै ।। (किन्तु नैव सः कृष्णं नतवान् ।)
     
 6.    कोऽहम्
       नभस्वान्न तु भास्वान् च सकेतुर्न रथोऽप्यहम् ।
        सपुच्छो वानरो नापि सधूमो न तु पावकः ।।
 7.    कोऽहम्
        जनिश्च मे सदा पादैरशक्तो गन्तुमेव तु ।
             तिष्ठाम्यलंकृतः किन्तु पदे पदे लसाम्यहम् ।।
 8.    कोऽहम्
         उत्तुंगपथि गच्छामि पिबामि जीवनालतः ।
         तमोवने च जीवामि श्रमेणाऽन्वेषणं तु मे ।।
9.    कोऽहम्?
          पञ्चशरे हि यन्नास्ति विद्यते मयि चाप्यहम्।
          सगदोऽस्मि न भीमस्तु नाम्ना चन्द्रोऽस्ति मत्पिता ।।
     10. कोऽहम्?  
     ताडितोऽपि सदा चाहं वारं वारं कपोलयोः ।
          अहो लोकास्तु मोदन्ते शिरःकम्पनतालकैः ।।

Explanations / Hints
1. When I am singing there is undisturbed listening. When being acknowledged with clapping, my time is up the very moment.
2. My friend stays very near me and is indeed very fond of me. If I cry he also follows suit immediately.
3. I am during sukha and duhkha sometimes but always in smashru. I am not in men as well as women and by movement is downwards!
4. I am dvika and an ordinary dvija. I am always thirsty. I am related to Mudgala and the son of Vasudeva.
5. Duryodhana said this in the assembly ‘when Krishna arrives I should salute hi, as he is worthy of respect always’ but he never saluted. How? 
6. I am in the sky but I am not Sun. I am with a flag but I am not a chariot. I have a tail but I am not a monkey. I am with smoke but I am not fire.
7. I am born with pāda-s always but I can't place a foot forward. Even when being decorated (to go out) I stand in a place. Yet I shine at every step!
8. I take the lofty path, I drink from the live streams, live in dark forests and it is with difficulty I am traced!
9. What is not in manmatha or ananga, that is anga, is in me (my name). I am (Or my name is) with a gada (mace) but I am not bheema. My mother is Tara and so my father is Tarapati, which happens to be the name of moon as well.
10. I am being beaten again and again on both my cheeks yet people rejoice over that by shaking their heads and clapping!
