Random musings - part 4

The moment you realise you are ageing - your wisdom has begun to dawn a bit! Alas the youth is already spent in a useless manner. Today there is strength in the body still - fie! upon old age! It has not come yet! :-)

There is a verse in Sanskrit which brands some people as animals who cannot enjoy or create art forms! This verse broaches upon the same idea but in a different way! The lustre of those who possess a kala (either a performer or a rasika) shines like the moon with all its kalas (digits). We can enjoy their presence for quite some time, until we catch cold Lol.

The lustre of others is like that of the midday Sun - we cannot tolerate their presence at all. It is not that they are very bright! Lol

--------------------------------

Alas! Some people who slip in life tend to fall again even when they are uplifted by chance or fate! This is like water, which has the tendency to go down only, even when lifted much high by the clouds! It cannot stay up!

--------------------------------

The first two padas of this sloka is an imitation. The third pada is a modification. The fourth is a mix of Sanskrit and English for fun!

Hey people! From today we both don't go together. We are what we are and you are what you are. We are after Hari (alone) and you are after hurry-burry (activities)!

--------------------------------

In the conflict between man and nature, man is in a hurry to conquer her; but she wins patiently and he is born again and again (as he is conquered through death)

--------------------------------

Caturmukhabrahma is born from a lotus that sprang from the navel of Lord Vishnu, who is suddhasattva. Rajo guna is required for creating anything. Wherefrom Brahma acquired rajas when he was born from sattva alone? From the nearby lotus, which is his birth place as well as his seat. Lotus has pollen, which is also called as rajas!

Sattva means existence (birth) as well

A religious mind simply believes in God and does not entertain questions about Him. A philosophical mind, on the other hand, questions the concept of God, analyses, accepts and believes, perhaps with more conviction. Thus, there is always tension between the philosophical and the religious. All Indian philosophical systems have, with some reasons, defined what according to them is the Paramatma or Brahman.

The Vedanta schools, in particular, have accepted the definition of Brahman that is declared in Upanishads, but not without their own interpretations. Hence the differences!

The two famous divisions of Visistadvaita or Srivaishnavism, a school within the Vedanta fold, are divided in some aspects among which one is on the nature of mercy of the Lord. Is HIS mercy unconditional(nirhetuka) or conditional (sahetuka)?

The thenkalai state it is nirhetuka. They chant 'Srisailesa DAYAPATRAM' before reciting the divya prabandhams.

The vadagalai state atleast a vyaja or pretext is required by the Lord to show His mercy. They chant 'Ramanuja DAYAPATRAM'.

Both are alluded to as DAYAPATRAs in the following verse which addresses this particular issue to Hari, the Lord Himself!

Hari! Alas! With various reasons, it is argued by the two DAYAPATRAS (slesha, both being receptacles of your grace) whether your grace is with a reason or without any!

With a camera we can take a photo or video. Video is actually a continuous stream of still photos frame by frame.

But when we see objects I feel it is always a video recording even if the objects are stationary. It is continuous streaming of 'scenes'. I wonder if we can really something in a photographic mode given the continuous passage of time and movement of earth!

A river is a stream of flowing water, a lamp's glow is continuity of its flames and music is the nonstop flow of svaras. Seeing is indeed continuous streaming of scenes frame by frame!

The beautiful angas of the Lord have been compared to lotuses as only they come somewhere closer.

If the hands and lips of the Lord are lotuses, that are brilliantly pinkish, how come the pancajanya is able to retain its whiteness? That is my doubt!

O Pancajanya! Your abode as well as place of blowing is lotus (brilliantly pinkish)! I have a doubt in your whiteness! 🤔

What new idea can be expressed that was not said by the seers of yore. May be the words or their arrangement can be changed!
