श्रीरामस्तुतिः - भागः १
लोकाssलोके
निवृत्तोपि चोरश्चोरस्तथापि ते |
पदं मे
रोचते राम! चोरय मे मनो नम: ।। 1 ।।

in the eyes of the world, nivrttopi (even if reformed),(corascora) a thief is
ever a thief, (tathaapi) but even then, padam tE rocatE mE (your foot is
desired by me) RAma, choraya (steal) me manaH (my mind), namaH (salutations to
you)
Today
I may look like a saint but people know who Iam originally (every saint had a
past as they say), never mind (now) i seek your thiruvadi. But my mind, you
have to steal it! Salutations! 😄
The double use of words like loka and chora and similar sounding words like rocate, choraya, topi, thaapi, mana, nama may be enjoyed. I guess it is called as alliteration.

If my mind is
imagined to be a kingdom of two brothers, dushkrta (bad karma) and sukrta (good
karma), the younger one sukrta has been banished for a long time! Alas! Who
will help me? Oh! Yes! There is an expert in helping the younger ones -
Bharatha, Sugriva, Vibheeshana in getting their kingdom back.
दुष्कृतेन
मनोराज्यात् निरस्तस्सुकृतोऽनुजः ।
तत्पूर्वजाद्धि मे
राम! प्रविभक्ताय जापय ।। 2 ।।
Please do not conclude that bhakti or jnana has
arisen. My state is akin to a child who has discovered that it can speak and
begins to talk or imitate anything what it comes to its mouth! The prattling
may be enjoyed though!

कस्यापि मन्दरोगस्य
भेषजं तिक्तमेव नु ।
तीव्रसंसाररोगस्य मधुरं
राम! नाम ते ।। 3 ।।
Medicines are indeed bitter for any minor illness
(even). (But) Rama! for the major illness called samsara, the medicine i.e your
name, is so sweet! 😄

Composed on an ekadasi, inspired by the words of
Maharishi Valmiki. One should visualise the three, Rama, Sita and Lakshmana
walking one behind the other in a line in the forest!
रामो रेमे रमा रेमे
रम्येऽरण्ये समाऽऽगते ।
रेमे शेषोऽपि तस्मिन्नु
रमायाहं समागमे ।। 4 ।।
Rama enjoyed, Sita enjoyed when they reached the
beautiful forest. Lakshmana also enjoyed in that! Let me enjoy in their union!
The speciality: The word रेमे
sounds similar to राम & रमा & रम्ये. The
word शेष indicates the remaining one (in the group)
who happens to be Lakshmana, शेष
himself. The word तस्मिन् expresses the idea that Lakshmana does not have a
separate enjoyment rather he enjoys in theirs. The words समागते
& समागमे are of course similar sounding.

अरीणां
गर्वभेदी तं त्वज्ज्याटंकारसुध्वनिम् ।
रामेति
मम शष्कुल्यां ध्वानय कृपया सदा ।।
5 ।।
(My Lord!) Please make that sound, called 'Rama',
which emanates from the twang of your bow string (I presume even that would
sound 'Rama') and which destroys the prides of your enemies, reverberate in my
ears! Let me keeping that sound always!

This one is wondering at Rama's act of stealing! How
can you do? Is it not Krishna's nature to do so?
कार्यमननुरूपं
ते राम! चोरयसे प्रभो! ।
दृष्टसुन्दररूपाणि
सकृत् भक्तमनांस्यपि ।।
6 ।।
This job of stealing is indeed not befitting your
character. (What did you steal?) You steal the hearts of bhaktas who have seen
your beautiful form once! The usage of words sakrt, api and bhakta bring in an
element of slesha. Api means also or even. Bhakta means separated also. Sakrt
means once. You steal even those minds which are separated from you, but have
now seen your beautiful form even (only) once!

प्रत्यक्षध्यानयोर्मे
तु न हि त्वमागमिष्यसि ।
राघव!
तव का हानिः मत्स्वप्नागमने प्रभो! ।।
7 ।।
Raghava! My Lord! I know for sure you will not appear
before me ( I am not a bhakta at all) and you will not come in dhyana ( for I
am incapable of that). What will you lose if you come in my dreams? (Please
come) like in Tamil we say வந்தா என்ன குறை?

जलं
वहति कुल्याऽपि न केवलं महानदी ।
बुधप्रशस्य!
ते राम! यशो मन्मन्दवागपि ।। 8 ।।
Water flows not only in big rivers but also in a small
canal (if not always). Likewise Rama! the one sung in praise by great poets!
(Valmiki et al) you are praised by the dull words of this dull witted one! 😄 Ideas have ever remained the same. Be it
naicyanusandhanam or any other bhava. The point is it comes across in the minds
of many and thus finds expression in many forms. Let it not be termed copying! 😊

प्रभो!
रामेति नामैव राघवपुंगवस्य ते ।
उद्धरणमहामन्त्रः
लाघवपुंगवस्य मे ।। 9 ।।
My lord! The best of Raghavas! your name 'Rama' is the
only maha mantra that can uplift me, the best of laghavas (lowly existence)!

Rama! How could I (a lowly creature) think about you?
You only have to appear in my mind? But what will make you come, the protector
of yajnas in the forest?
मनोवने
हि मे राम! नामयज्ञं करोमि ते ।
दुर्गुणराक्षसेभ्यस्त्वां
तद्रक्षणार्थमाह्वये ।।
10 ।।
Rama! In my mind- forest, I am a performing a yajna -
to keep chanting your name. I invite you to protect that yajna from my bad
gunas, rakashas they are. Is it not your duty to protect yajnas? Please come! 😄
