Sri Venugopala Suprabhatam - composed on Sri Venugopalan, the presiding deity of Alathurai Village.

Our ancestors are originally from a hamlet called Setlur (a variation of Shrestaluru in the border of present day Karnataka and Andhrapradesh). We belong to the Kausika gotra. They migrated to a hamlet called Thensiruvalur (near Thindivanam). My great grand father moved to a village called Alathurai (near Uthiramerur and Vandavasi). My grand father spent most of his life there before moving to Chennai in his old age with his sons. This Suprabhatam was composed by me on Sri Venugopalan, the presiding deity of the village.

|| श्रीवेणुगोपालसुप्रभातम् ||

1.          कौसल्यासुप्रजाराम! पूर्वा सन्ध्या प्रवर्तते ।

उत्तिष्ठ नरशार्दूल कर्तव्यं दैवमाह्निकम् ।

2.        उत्तिष्ठोत्तिष्ठ गोविन्द! उत्तिष्ठ गरुडध्वज! ।

उत्तिष्ठ कमलाकान्त त्रैलोक्यं मङ्गलं कुरु ।।

3.        यशोदासुप्रजाकृष्ण! कालः प्रातः समागतः ।

गोविन्दोत्तिष्ठ गोविन्द! पूजां गृह्णीष्व मामकम् ।।

4.        हे गोपिकारमण! षष्ठपराङ्कुशाख्य-

प्रख्यातवैभवयुजा यतिपुङ्गवेन ।

क्षेत्रे पराङ्कुशपुरे विहिताभिषेक!

हे वेणुगोप! तव शोभनसुप्रभातम् ।।

Gopikaramana! Venugopala! In this village by name Parankushapura (as per records) the one who has been consecrated by a very famous yati by name Shashtaparankusha! (H.H.6th jeer of Sri Ahobilamutt) a beautiful suprabhatam to You.

கோபிகாரமண! வேணுகோபாலனே! ஷஷ்டபராங்குஶம் என்னும் இந்த ஶ்ரீ க்ராமத்தில் மிகவும் ப்ரசித்தி பெற்ற ஷஷ்டபராங்குஶரால் (ஆறாம் பட்டம் ஶ்ரீமதழகியசிங்கர்) ப்ரதிஷ்டைசெய்யப்பெற்றவனே! உனக்கு அழகியதொரு ஸுப்ரபாதம்!

5.        स्वैरं गतान् तृणचरान् परदुह्यमानान्

संसारमोहितगणान् प्रतिबोधनीयान् ।

गीतेन तेन मुरलीनिनदेन देव!

सद्यो हि बोधय विभो तव सुप्रभातम् ।।

Deva! Vibho! Suprabhatam to You. Wake (give us jnana) us up soon with Your pleasant music of the flute. We out of ignorance have been going after insignificant things thinking we are independent; so we are being made to work for others as we are disillusioned in the samsara. (The first two padas can also mean cattle)

We are just behaving like cattle who have to be led by You. They are happy going after grass and delighted in their rasa, being milked by others, trying to break free and go on their own.

                    

பசுக்களைப் போல நாங்கள் துச்சமான விஷயங்களில் ஈடுபட்டு ஸ்வந்தந்திரமாக நடப்பதாக நினைத்து அவைகளின் சுவையில் உள்ள மோகத்தில் பிறருக்கு உழைத்துக் கொண்டிருக்கிறோம்.

அப்படிப்பட்ட எங்களை நீ உன்னுடைய புல்லாங்குழல் இசையினால் துயிலெழுப்ப (அறிவு கொடுக்க வேண்டும்) வேண்டும். அதற்காக உனக்கு ஸுப்ரபாதம்.

6.        उत्तिष्ठ देव! भव गोपकवेषधारी

वंश्या विनोदय वयं च भवाम गोपाः ।

गोभिः सहैव नय नः परिमुह्यमानान्

बृन्दावनं सुखपदं तव सुप्रभातम् ।।

Suprabhatam to You our Lord! Please wake up and adorn the garb of a gopaka. Please us with Your flute and we shall all become gopas too. Along with cattle, lead us too, the ones who are disillusioned, to the abode of happiness, Your Vrindavan.

தேவ! உனக்கு ஸுப்ரபாதம். எழுந்திரு. கோபகனின் வேஷத்தை தரி. உன் புல்லாங்குழல் ஓசையில் எங்களை, ஸம்ஸாரத்தில் மோகித்திருப்பவர்களை மயக்கி, பசுக்களுடன் சேர்த்து சுகம் மிக்க உன்னுடைய பிருந்தாவனத்திற்கு அழைத்துச் செல்.

7.         उन्मील्य पश्य सुमनोहरपङ्कजाक्ष!

चित्तं च नो हर परावर! पद्मपाद!

आकृष्य चालय परां पदवीं मुरारे!

वार्ष्णेय वर्षय दयां तव सुप्रभातम् ।।

The One with beautiful lotus eyes! Wake up and look at us. The Supreme! The lotus footed! Steal our minds. Murari! Lead us to Your highest abode (where we can do kainkarya). For that rain Your daya, Oh Varshneya! suprabhatam to You.

அழகிய தாமரைக்கண்ணனே! கண் விழித்து எங்களைச் பார். பராவரனே! தாமரைப்பாதனே! எங்கள் மனதை அபகரிப்பாய். முராரியே உன்னுடைய பரமபதத்திற்கு எங்களை அழைத்துச் செல். அதன்பொருட்டு வார்ஷ்ணேய! உன் தயையை வர்ஷிப்பாய். உனக்கு ஸுப்ரபாதம்.

8.        पत्रे वटस्य शयिताच्युतमुग्धमूर्ते!

वेदान्तवन्दितपुराणपते! प्रभाते ।

स्तोतुं प्रभो शुचिपदं सुलभं सुशीलं

प्राप्ता वयं च तव मंगलसुप्रभातम् ।।

The one who slept on the Vatapatra with the form of an infant! The primordial Purusha who is glorified by the Vedanta! We have come to Your abode that is pure, approachable and of good nature to sing suprabhatam.

ஆலிலையில் துயிலும் அழகிய அச்யுத சிசுவே! (அதே சமயத்தில்) வேதாந்தம் போற்றும் புராண பதியே! இந்த அதிகாலையில் உனக்கு மங்கள ஸுப்ரபாதம் பாட உன்னுடைய தூய எளிய ஸுஶீலமான இருப்பிடத்தை அடைந்துள்ளோம்.

9.        या भामिनी निजबलेन जिता च पूर्वं

भक्त्याsपरा जितवती तुलनेsतुलं त्वाम् ।

ताभ्यां सहेह वसनेन हरे! सदा ते

संरक्ष नः परिजनान् तव सुप्रभातम् ।।

Hari! Suprabhatam to You. By Your residence with those two among whom one (Satyabhama) was won over by Your strength and other won You the incomparable, on the tulana (balance) with bhakti (by placing a tulsi leaf), always protect us, Your dependents.

ஹரியே உனக்கு ஸுப்ரபாதம். ஸத்யபாமா உன் பலத்தின் பரிசு. ருக்மிணி உன்னை தன் பக்தியினால் தராசில் வென்றாள். இருவருடனும் உன்னுடைய வீற்றிருத்தலால் உன்னுடைய பரிஜனங்களான எங்களை காப்பாற்று.

10.      आमोचनाय पशुतुल्यचयान् विधेयान्

प्रादुर्बभूविथ पदे किल गोकुलाख्ये ।

गोविन्द गोष्पदमयादिह वै भवो नः

गोपाल पालय सदा तव सुप्रभातम्  ।।

Gopala! Suprabhatam to You. Protect us always. To uplift us, Your dependesnts, who are like a herd of cattle, You indeed incarnated before in Gokula. Due to Your birth as Krishna, Samsara is now something which is easily crossable for us now.

கோபாலனே! உனக்கு ஸுப்ரபாதம். எங்களை எப்பொழுதும் காப்பாற்று. பசுக்களைப் போன்ற எங்களை, உனது பரிஜனங்களை கரையேற்றுவதற்காக முன்பு கோகுலத்தில் நீ அவதரித்தாய். அதனால் ஸம்ஸாரமானது (ஸாகரம்) எங்களுக்கு எளிதில் கடக்கக்கூடியதாக ஆயிற்றல்லவோ.

11.         तत्त्वं हितं च परमं पुरुषस्य चार्थं

         नूनं त्वमेव कुरुनन्दनसारथे! नः ।

कैङ्कर्य एव मतिरस्तु सदा रमेश!

निद्रां त्यजेदिह तव सुन्दरसुप्रभातम् ।

O! the charioteer of Arjuna! (Kurunandana) You are indeed the tattva (to be known), the means (for liberation) and purushartha (goal of liberation). Ramesha! Let our thoughts be in Your kainkarya always! Wake up Suprabhatam to You.                       

பார்த்தசாரதியே! நீ தான் எங்களுக்கு அறியப்படவேண்டிய தத்த்வம், மோக்ஷத்தை அடைய வழி, மோக்ஷத்தின் பயனும் கூட. ரமேஶ! எங்களது மதியானது உனக்கு கைங்கர்யம் புரிவதிலேயே இருக்கவேண்டும்.  துயிலெழாய். உனக்கு ஸுப்ரபாதம்.

12.      दासस्य वै जलजनाभमुकुन्दगुर्वोः

श्रीवेणुगोपदयया मुखजातपद्यम् ।

नित्यं प्रबोधयतु तान् पठतः प्रभाते

भक्तिं ददातु मुरलीधरसुप्रभातम् ।।

Let this Suprabhata of Muralidhara which is composed by dAsa of (2 gurus) Sri Mukuntha and Sri Padmanabha enlighten them who recite it at dawn and also generate bhakti in them always.                       

ஶ்ரீ முகுந்தன் மற்றும் ஶ்ரீ பத்மநாபன் என்கிற குருக்களுடைய தாசனின் முகத்தில்  ஶ்ரீ வேணுகோபனுடைய தயையால்தோன்றிய (உள்ளிருந்து தூண்டியதால்) இந்த ஸுப்ரபாதம் அதிகாலையில் அனுஸந்தானம் செய்வோருக்கு ஞானத்தையும் பக்தியையும் கொடுக்கட்டும்.
